The Fitbit for your footprint that delivers climate justice in Africa

Dublin, June 21, 2019 – Vita, an Irish international development partner that creates access to food, clean water and renewable energy in Africa, today launched its own carbon calculator. The calculator, which can be found on Vita’s website, provides a platform on which individuals and companies can measure and offset their carbon footprint, allowing them to meet their climate responsibilities and deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals in a simple online transaction. This unique carbon-offsetting model offers companies a fast and effective pathway to carbon neutrality status, while helping some of the world’s most disadvantaged people achieve sustainable livelihoods. The calculator is the only one of its kind that is completely not-for-profit.

Vita CEO, John Weakliam, said, “The business and economic landscape is changing rapidly here in Ireland, as companies and government come under increased pressure from consumers, legislators, and media to deliver robust policies around climate action. We have just seen the launch of Ireland’s Climate Action Plan and businesses are searching for ways to integrate climate action into their business model. Our calculator delivers a means by which businesses and individuals can measure their footprint, understand what they need to reduce, and offset the remainder to achieve carbon neutrality.”

Additionally, this approach to offsetting offers organisations an opportunity to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals by supporting programmes that lift communities out of poverty and ill-health in Africa. Vita has already partnered with companies such as Microsoft, Avolon Aircraft Leasing, Toshiba, Keogh’s Crisps and Farm, Cantor Fitzgerald, Irish Aid, Dublin City Council, FBD, Tayto Park, and An Post to achieve high social impact in rural communities through their carbon offset platform. Vita’s credits are registered and audited by Gold Standard, an industry-standard Swiss company accredited by the UN.
