Dublin, September 5, 2019 – Vita, the Irish NGO specialising in social impact carbon offsetting, is delighted to be shortlisted for the Irish Times Innovation Awards 2019. The 30-year-old not-for-profit has been nominated for its next-generation social impact investment platform, the Vita Green Impact Fund.

The Vita Green Impact Fund delivers measurable, life-transforming change to poor farming families in Africa while providing climate action solutions to individuals and businesses in Ireland and internationally. The inclusion of Vita’s model in the shortlist clearly demonstrates that platforms that deliver climate action solutions are essential to innovative business strategies.

Vita’s CEO, John Weakliam, said, “We know that the traditional models of aid in Africa have not worked, and that a fundamentally different approach is needed to meet the challenge presented by climate destruction. Our model is part of that solution – it enables new money to get behind development programmes in Africa, where the returns are reasonable but complemented by significant social and environmental returns. It’s a brave step forward but one that is desperately needed.”
